DESIGN CHALLENGE

Design an experimental calendar that pushes the boundaries of how typical calendar information is presented in physical structure and layout.

form

I chose to create a children's board game to teach kids about the seasons.

brainstorming

Idea #1

A calendar of photos featuring sunrises along the same skyline to show the change in sun position over time.

Idea #2

A wall-mount calendar installation consisting of tape measures to track one's marathon training workout.

Idea #3

A board game calendar to teach kids about the seasons.

Originally I envisioned each space on the board corresponding to a day of the month. In the final iteration, the board depicts an entire year, with each corner representing one of the four seasons.

Final Concept

Each corner of the board represents one of the four seasons, with various squares containing plays corresponding to activities typical of that season (e.g., "Build a snowman" and move forward one space for winter).
